Everest Base Camp via Nepal

To enter Tibet from Kathmandu, you must be a group of 4 or more people. See the alternative itinerary following this one if you are less than 4 people. You can go via Chengdu without visa problems.

Pea kPea k Kathmandu - Lhasa - Day 1
Transfer to airport for the flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa on China Southwest Airlines. This one hour trans Himalaya Flight will give you an aerial view of Mt. Everest and other Himalayan Peaks. Arrival at Gonggar airport around 1330 hrs. After clearing immigration and customs, it will be a two hour drive to cover 93 km. to Lhasa which is situated at an altitude of 3650 meters (13,000 feet). Buddist Lhasa - Day 2 - 4
During these 3 days in Lhasa we visit the Potala Palace, Drepung and Sera monasteries, the Norbulinka and of course the famous Jokhang temple including the surrounding Barkhor.

Lhasa - Gyantse - Day 5
We begin our overland adventure with a full day drive to Gyantse. Along the way we cross the Kamba la (4794 m) and the Karo la pass (5010), both spectacular views. After the Kamba la we come to Yamdrok tso, also known as Turquoise lake. Altitude 3900m. Gyantse hotel (two star very good with bath)

Buddist Gyantse - Shigatse- Day 6
In the morning we visit Gyantse stupa and monastery followed by a two hour drive to Shigatse. Here we see the giant Buddha in the famous Tashilumpo monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama. Altitude 3800 m. Post Office Hotel (one star with bath)

Pea k Shigatse - Shegar - Lhatse - Day 7
The journey today brings us over two high passes with fine views. For lunch we stop in the small town of Lhatse. Depending on how much time we spend during the morning in Shigatse, we might stay overnight in Lhatse. Altitude 4350 m. Lhatse Guest House (small guest house no attached bath)

Pea k Shegar - Lhatse - Rombuk - Day 8
The day begins with the Tsho la (4500 m) and ends with the spectacular view of Mt. Everest from Rombuk monastery. Relax tonight and stroll around the monastery. Altitude 5050 m. Rombuk Guest house (very nice Tibetan room, no attached bath

Walk Rombuk - Lao Tingri - Day 9
Early morning rising and 2-3 hour leisurely walk to Everest base-camp (5200 m). Return by jeep in early afternoon to head to Lao Tingri, a small Tibetan town. Altitude 4200 m.

Lao Tingri - Zhangmu - Kathmandu - Day 10
Full day journey; cross the Lalung pass (5050 m). In the evening relax in Kathmandu

TIBET: Everest Base Camp via Chengdu

NOTES You can fly to Chengdu from Bangkok or Hong Kong. Our representative in Chengdu will meet you at the airport, transfer you to the hotel and give you the Tibet visa and flight tickets for Lhasa. This ticket cost must be paid to Spirit of India in advance. You must obtain your China visa in advance. However, the cost for Tibet permit is included in our tour price. You must email to us copies of the front page of your passports as soon as possible so that we can pass it on to the representative to apply for the permit.

Camping Many people prefer camping where possible on this journey. The cost of camping is higher than the hotels because the support vehicle with the equipment and staff drives from Kathmandu. There will be about five camping crew which includes one cook, sherpa guide and helpers.

Day 1 Hong Kong / Chengdu or Bangkok/Chengdu You will be met at the airport and transferred to Htl Lhasa Grand for overnight.

Day 2 Transfer to airport for flight Chengdu / Lhasa. SZ 4405 dep 0650, arr 0840 Overnight at Htl Dudhgu. Hotel Dudhgu is in Barkhor area and run by Nepali Management. It is a new hotel with attached bath and apparently popular.
